Labor Day Weekend Worship Aids for Your Congregation
Labor Day is an opportunity to speak from our pulpits, bimahs, and mimbars to the prophetic connection between faith and work. What a year it has been for working families in San Diego County and around the Country. This recession has affected many in our communities, but as people of faith, we remain steadfast. We suffer with those who suffer and rejoice with those who rejoice!
In congregations, too many families and friends are reeling from the economic crises. We have focused this year's message on themes of inspiration, consolation, and solidarity. Rather than focus on any particular campaign ( though they are critically important), we recall the victories won for workers by the American Labor Movement ( child labor laws, weekends, workplace safety) and pray for the creation of good jobs for those who suffer from this recession: the unemployed, the underemployed, and the poor. On the sidebar to the left you will find a list of resources that will aid you in planning a meaningful Labor Day Weekend service. It is not too late to request an ICWJ faith leader or labor representative to speak at your congregation this Labor Day Weekend. If you would like a speaker or need any of these resources as a word.doc to edit, please contact ICWJ staff Pastor Marcos Mujica at Marcos@ICWJ.org or Elizabeth Maldonado at Elizabeth@ICWJ.org.
If you have a moment, we would appreciate you letting us know if you used any of these materials this Labor Day Weekend.

We wish you all a blessed Labor Day Weekend!
