With our communities wracked by unemployment and underemployment, local jobs must be a top priority for all levels of government.

CPI works with local officials and community leaders on measures to make sure public spending and policy helps create good quality local jobs. Not temporary, part-time, uninsured and low-paid jobs. Our economic recovery requires solid, middle-class, career-building, family-sustaining jobs.

High quality, middle-class jobs involve more than a fair wage. They also must include access to family health care and retirement security.

One way local governments can directly influence the creation of good local jobs is through policies that require local hiring for public works projects and large redevelopment contracts.
